Here are instructions for the “Coin in a Bottle” trick.
EFFECT: A coin is borrowed from a spectator. The coin is then seen to penetrate a soda pop bottle and can be visibly examined inside the bottle. The coin is then removed from the bottle and returned to the spectator for examination!
SECRET: The coin is gaffed in a way that enables it to fold and retract back to its original state very quickly. In fact, it restores itself quicker than the eye can see. This particular coin can be folded in two places which makes it smaller to conceal and also allows it to fit inside a pop bottle, beer bottle, etc.
RUBBER BANDS: You may use one or two rubber bands on your coin. The groove is made to accommodate two, so that if one breaks, the other is there as a back up. I suggest that you replace them every 6 months or sooner if you are using the coin a lot. Try to keep the bands straight on the coin as this will insure the best performance. Put the rubber bands on the center section first and then add the other pieces. If you don’t use the coin for more than 6 months, plan to replace the bands. They will wear out over time. AND,…make sure that you keep this coin separate from the others in your pocket.
PERFORMANCE: Fold the coin so that the smaller pieces are on either side of the larger piece. Place it between the third and fourth finger on your right hand.
You may allow the spectator to examine the bottle. As you take the bottle from the spectator, grasp the bottle by the neck and slip the folded coin into the neck of the bottle. Be sure to keep the bottle horizontal so that the folded coin rests inside the neck of the bottle. If you turn the bottle upright in a vertical position, the folded coin may slide inside the bottle prematurely. For misdirection of inserting the folded coin in the neck of the bottle, you can ask the spectator for a borrowed coin. Make sure that you ask for a similar coin of which you are using. Now, while keeping the bottle horizontal with your right hand still around the neck, raise it up to shoulder height. Hold the borrowed coin between your left thumb and forefinger. Count to 3 as you gently tap the borrowed coin against the opening of the bottle. On 3, you simultaneously thumb palm the borrowed coin and with the palm of your left hand, strike the open end of the bottle sharply. This will cause the folded coin the neck to fly inside the bottle and spring open instantly. You can now pass the bottle around and enjoy the expressions of the people around you.
